What is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA)?
A trainer who is certified as a CPDT-KA has achieved the extensive experiential and knowledge-based requirements established by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), which offers the only international, standardized certification for dog training professionals that is both psychometrically sound and independent of any course of study.
In order to achieve CPDT-KA status, a trainer must have at least 300 hours of dog training experience and provide recommendations from a veterinarian, a client, and a colleague. In addition, they must pass the CPDT-KA exam, which is a science-based exam that requires the trainer to demonstrate knowledge in Instruction skills, Animal Husbandry, Ethology, Learning Theory, Equipment, Business Practices, and Ethics.
